MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — Authorities are searching for a driver after a 10-year-old girl was killed and her brother was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash involving an electric bicycle in Miami-Dade County.
The crash happened around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday near Northwest 117th Street and Northwest Seventh Avenue.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, a driver traveling north on Northwest Seventh Avenue turned left onto Northwest 117th Street and struck the children as they were riding an e-bike.
Deputies arrived and found both children unresponsive in the roadway.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the children to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. The 10-year-old girl, identified by family as Peyton, later died from her injuries.
Her older brother remained hospitalized in critical condition Friday.
Investigators are searching for a silver or gray 2009-2012 Nissan Versa believed to have been involved in the crash.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating.
