ORANGE COUNTY, FL (FNB) – Two children were injured Friday afternoon after a firearm accidentally discharged while their father, an off-duty Orange County deputy, was cleaning it, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 12:55 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities said a single round was accidentally fired. One child suffered a gunshot wound, while the other was injured by shrapnel.

Both children were taken to a hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.

“The children were transported to the hospital in stable condition. This is still an active and ongoing investigation,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We do not have any additional details to release at this time.”

The incident remains under investigation.
